02/19/2003 Archived Entry: "Having trouble sleeping..."
I have to admit moving to the big city, and being in a new place has effected my sleep patterns. Not to mention we have a cat that isn't allowed in the bedroom, who cries at the door periodically. I lived on a 165 acre cow farm for two years prior to moving here, and all I ever heard was an occasional cow, or a coyote late at night.... total peace and quiet!! Well, last night I was sleeping, and I was woken up by something...we keep our window cracked all the time, so I can hear outside pretty well. It was about 3 a.m. and I heard this woman crying almost wimpering outside, it wasn't really that loud. I lay there for a moment or two, and thought I might have heard a low muffled voice speaking to the one crying. Then I heard a shopping cart move a little bit. I got up to investigate, but I couldn't see anything, I cracked the patio door just enough so I could hear, and the crying continued on for a few moments more, but I couldn't see anyone...then it just stopped. I don't know if they saw me or not...I never saw anyone. I have to think it was one of the many homeless people that meander around late at night, but I am not sure. To say the least...it kind of spooked me, hoping that whoever it was, wasn't being harmed or hurt in any physical way. I don't think it was one of my neighbors...it didn't really sound like it was coming from another balcony. I guess it will remain a mystery. Greg can sleep through anything...so he didn't hear it. Oh well, it is overcast and dreary, and at some point I have to go to the grocery store. I wish the sun would come out. It makes the days so much nicer. Have a great day!
